Dabi: “Hey, is that a couch?” Hawks: “Yeah” *Dabi lifts couch upright and sits on it, breathing heavy* Twice: Hawks: Hawks: “Is it okay if we go on withou-” Dabi: “Yeah go for it.”
People who know me are aware that I’ve never done a callout post before, and that I definitely prefer blocking, reporting (if necessary) or talking directly in chat with people who repost content, instead of calling them out publicly. But enough is enough.
There’s an Instagram account that’s reposting a lot of creations from the BSD fandom on Tumblr, and probably Twitter as well. Fanarts, wallpapers, screenshots of gifs, edits and even icons. I’ve never seen this level of reposting before. Their account has 3k+ followers - followers that probably don’t even know, or care, that it’s all reposted content without credits. I’m speechless, and really mad at the moment.
I rarely use IG, especially for fandom content, so I’m not very
knowledgeable
about how reporting works there - and I probably wouldn’t even have noticed without my friends on Discord informing me.
This is their IG account: 11.11.n.v.mb
(EDIT: now they’re called _.yo.kozai._ )
This is not only very disrespectful to me (there are ENTIRE posts, gifs, edits and icons made by me on their account), but to content creators in general. Without content creators you wouldn’t even have content to repost. Fandoms wouldn’t be the same without them. You’re not doing them a favor by reposting their creations like this. You’re just spitting on their faces and stealing the things they worked hard on.
DON’T DO THIS, PLEASE. ASK FOR PERMISSION BEFORE REPOSTING, AND ALWAYS CREDIT AND SUPPORT THE ORIGINAL CREATORS. For fanarts, but also for gifs/gfx/wallpapers/edits etc. We make and share content for the fandom, but that doesn’t mean that you own the content we make and that you can just repost it as your own. I have so much to say about this topic, but I’ll keep it at this, for now.
I’d suggest y’all to check that IG account, especially gfx creators and fanartists, to see if they reposted your works too - and report them.
Below (’read more’) are some examples of blatant reposts on their IG account.
EDIT (03/02/2020): OP is still reposting without permission, and this time they’re reposting a ton of gifsets and gfx. I have no words, really.
They also changed their account name to _.yo.kozai._
And below are some of the new reposts. I really don’t know how to stop
them at this point. Clearly, words are not enough to make them
understand that reposts without permission are not okay. It’s not enough
to add credits to think “ah, now I’m all good. I can repost without
problems”. Especially because I personally saw them repost and then credit
the wrong blog, even if the watermark on the gfx was perfectly visible.
Look at this! There’s clearly written @aizawashoutta (on every pic), and they still credited another blog on Tumblr. A
person commented under this post to tell them to credit the right blog
and, unsurprisingly, they still haven’t replied.
Are you serious OP? Do you think we’re stupid? You have no respect for
content creators. If you see this post (and I know one of your friends told you about it), know that I don’t want your forgiveness.
Don’t think you’re a saint here, nor the victim. In your “I’m sorry”
post, you said that you never meant to disrespect artists, that you love
their works, and that you’re new at this. I’ll tell you this then: you don’t mean any of that. If they tell you to stop doing something because it’s
not okay (and you told me in chat that a lot of people contacted you about
reposts in the past even before my DM), and they explain to you why
it’s bad, and you still behave like before, you have no right to
complain or ask for forgiveness. You’re just an
hypocrite.
“I’m new to this” is not a valid excuse because I had a lot of interactions with new blogs that reposted content in their first posts and after explaining to them what the problem of reposts was, they stopped doing it and started posting their own original content or reblogging posts from the original creators instead. And I’m pretty sure you’ve been reposting content for several months now… so stop using that excuse, please.
/// I read that comments boost
their visibility, so try not to comment under their posts on IG, if possible.
And if you know people that follow them, please explain to them that
they should unfollow them asap, or spread the word with this post. Thank
you.
